Buckley's Mixture
I learned about this medicine at Larry Hehn's blog today and was immediately glad to find Buckley's award-winning ad slogans. Here's a favorite: "People swear by it. And at it."
Larry's post is about New Year's resolutions and the tough, often distasteful, discipline it takes to achieve them. Ease and comfort don't produce much in the way of results. Buckley's, however, makes a good point. Besides the honest advertising (see his post for more examples, and others here), which is delightfully refreshing, I'm glad for this reminder that hard times are ahead for those want to grow and heal.
No getting around that. I'm closing in on 40 and feeling the need for worse-tasting medicine, if for no other reason than I simply can't imagine reaching 80 with the same regrets I have now. New medicine is on its way in 2011.

Yeah. If it isn't hard, then everyone will do it. And if everyone is doing it, then it is very likely not worth doing.
One of my favorite Bucklkey's slogans (not mentioned in the post) is:
How bad does it taste? That depends. How bad is your cough?
I think it's easier to take the pain of discipline once we realize the rewards that it will bring.

Buckley's is nasty stuff but it does work. When my wife takes it she does her "Buckley's Dance" which is a reaction to the nastiness. Touch stuff makes us recoil naturally - to heal or move forward through a tough time, we need to push through to greater health.
A "Buckley's Dance." Nice, David. A playful coping mechanism for an awful coping mechanism.
I've never had the stuff, but I wonder if I should try it just for the experience. (I'll wait till I'm on my death bed.)
